Information About Castles
A view of the Coach House and surrounding countryside from the battlements of the Castle!
Overlooking the estuary where Ireland’s largest river (the Shannon) enters the Atlantic Ocean, the original occupants of this fortified Castle could see invaders sail up the river, and could in turn signal the other nearby castles which were visible from the rooftop.
Ballyhannon Castle used to be surrounded by outbuildings in the courtyard, and the Coach House and ‘Snug’ are all that remain.
Imagine, you will be walking the same stone steps, living in the Castle and using the Coach House and ‘Snug’ just as our ancestors did almost 600 years ago. If the walls could talk…….!
